An Art Therapy Program for Children with Autism (Ages 8–10, Mostly Verbal)

Program Philosophy

Traditional art classes often overwhelm children with autism due to unpredictable textures (sticky glue, wet paints), sharp sensory feedback (scratching pencils), and abstract choices.

The Sensory Spectrum eliminates these triggers by anchoring emotional expression to highly predictable, structured, and dry Color-Texture Matrices. By restricting the palette to simple color codes, children reduce choice fatigue and find safe, tangible ways to express complex internal emotions.

J Howard | Orthomolecular Psychiatry and Expressive Art Therapies

Native Houstonian Dr. Julie Howard's practice focuses on individuals who seem to function and communicate in ways others do not understand. Having Aspergers, her experiences in cultural differences and the sufferings of someone who is repeatedly misunderstood and unfairly labeled are vast. Her ability to counsel is enlightening, and her professionalism is not only inspiring but also entertaining and enthusiastic.

As founder /CEO of The Howard Clark Corporation, formed in 1995, she created a consortium of programs for educating and advocating. The intent was to establish a more coordinated system of meeting the needs of individuals regarding health, literacy, accessibility, and acceptance. An integral part of her efforts includes assessment and assistance in three areas: behavioral, academic, and social, stressing the importance of paying close attention to lifestyle, culture, communication, diet, and intention. This lends to fewer opportunities to produce anxiety, fear, and stress, where the end result is opposition, anger, and defiance. She strives to create an environment for all types with all types of needs that would provide perfected social integration. Her theory is simply to remember to educate all. She has successfully rehabilitated through advocacy, counseling, education, skills training, mentorship, mediation, and proper communication.
