Micheline Newall,
Director of the GreenStreet location
Micheline Ferrand Newall, a native of Lima, Peru, was primarily raised in the United States and maintains a deep passion for the visual arts, serving as both a collector and a dedicated supporter of arts organizations. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with a strong concentration in Art History and is fluent in English and Spanish, with proficiency in French and Italian.
Based in Houston for over 30 years, Newall has a diverse entrepreneurial and creative background. She co-founded and served as chief editor of TODO Texas, a magazine promoting tourism and commerce between Mexico and Texas. Following an economic downturn, she successfully transitioned into the fashion business, first by importing Italian clothing brands, and later by launching her own textile accessory brand, Creativo.
Her commitment to combining commerce and culture led her to open a concept store in the Houston Heights, which evolved into a space for presenting contemporary art exhibitions. This ultimately led her to co-found Art Box Gallery with curator Maria Chevez. They successfully operated the gallery until 2020, showcasing the work of local and international artists.
Newall and Chevez have recently joined forces once again, dedicated to promoting the work of local artists across Texas to expand community access to the visual arts. Their commitment to this mission led Ana Villaronga, Founder and Director of Art Museum TX in Sugar Land, to invite Newall to serve as the Director and Chevez as the Curator for the new Art Museum TX Downtown Houston project.
